Two Projects Explore Ways to Clean Up Produced Water

Produced Water Pool

PEDL has partnered with Stochastic Research Technologies on a pilot project to remove Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) from produced water. NORM already exists in underground geologic formations and is released through the oil and gas recovery process. Read more about NORM in this explainer. The pilot centers on testing SRT’s novel, clay-based, adsorbent for removing radium from produced water. Phase 1 is scheduled to take place in early Q2 with Phase 2 planned for later in the year.

PEDL also entered into an agreement with Localized Water Solutions of Austin to collaborate on a pilot demonstration of LWS’s THELIX water treatment technology at PEDL Lands in Yoakum County. THELIX reduces brine disposal volumes and generates clean, reusable water.
