New Grant to Study Produced Water

Sandyland Water Conservation District Logo

The Texas Water Development Board awarded a grant to Sandy Land Underground Water Conservation District and PEDL to analyze whether treated produced water from nearby oil and gas development could serve as a supplemental irrigation supply.

The evaluation will assess treatment feasibility, recoverable volumes, delivery options and producer economics to determine whether produced water reuse could support future groundwater conservation strategies.

That project has launched, and work is underway in search of answers to the following questions:

  • When can we realistically expect treated produced water to become available for agriculture?

  • How could it be delivered to farmers?

  • What the infrastructure and economics look like?

  • Where it could provide the most value?
