Permian Energy Development Lab expands partnerships to accelerate energy innovation in the Permian Basin
Odessa, Texas—The Permian Energy Development Lab (PEDL) has signed four new memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with innovative energy companies, further solidifying its position as a catalyst for advanced energy research and development in the Permian Basin.
These new agreements with CleanCo Energie, EarthBridge Energy, Melzer Consulting and Omnia Midstream Partners build upon PEDL's existing partnerships and reflect the organization's momentum in bolstering the region's energy landscape.
"These new partnerships bring together some of the most innovative minds in energy," said Marilu Hastings, president of the PEDL board of directors. "We're not just talking about the future of energy – we're building it in the Permian Basin, creating opportunity for our communities in the process."
The new partnerships cover a wide range of advanced energy technologies and services:
CleanCo Energie will contribute its expertise in crop agrivoltaics, supporting PEDL's efforts to combine solar power generation with agricultural production, as well as assisting with community benefit initiatives and project management in the regenerative agriculture and solar microgrid development space.
EarthBridge Energy will collaborate with PEDL on the development and commercialization of its innovative GeoBattery™ technology, a grid-scale long-duration energy storage solution that utilizes underground reservoirs to store clean energy at a fraction of the cost of current storage technologies.
Melzer Consulting, a 40-year-old geotechnical consultancy run by Midland engineer Steve Melzer, will provide expertise in geological reservoir characterization to identify advanced energy opportunities and advise on geological factors affecting project deployment in the Permian Basin.
Omnia Midstream Partners will work with PEDL on sustainable solutions across the energy value chain, including solar integration, helium recovery, traditional midstream operations and CO2 sequestration.
These new MOUs build upon PEDL's existing partnerships with Composite Recycling, Roosevelt Resources, SOLARCYCLE and Teverra, contributing to the Permian Basin’s innovation ecosystem.
Key areas of collaboration outlined in the MOUs include:
Developing workforce training programs to prepare new energy professionals and entrepreneurs
Promoting community engagement and ensuring that the benefits of energy innovation are shared throughout the region
Identifying and pursuing funding opportunities to accelerate the commercialization of clean energy technologies
Engaging in joint research and development projects
Providing academic, intellectual and scientific resources to support advanced energy initiatives
"The Permian is on track to be a global hub for advanced energy innovation and a model for other energy intensive communities,” Hastings added. "Our role is to accelerate that process and make sure the benefits flow to the people who live and work here – and to the U.S. economy.”
